Board of Directors

Mr Roy McKelvie

Non-Executive Director, Chairman 

Roy is Chairman and an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Infocus Group and joined the board in 2016. His career spans financial markets and operational roles in the UK, Europe, Asia and Australia. His last full time role was as CEO of Transfield Holdings. Prior to this he was the MD & CEO of Gresham Private Equity in Sydney. He previously lived and worked in Hong Kong as MD and Asian Head of Deutsche Bank Capital Partners, and in the UK as a Director of 3i Group.

He is currently Chairman of Encompass Corporation.  He is also the Chairman of the Investment Board of AMB Capital Partners, a Non-Executive Director of Coolabah Capital Investments and a member of the Advisory Board of Enlighten Operational Excellence.

He has a BSc in Production Engineering from the University of Strathclyde and an MBA from the University of Edinburgh Business School.

Mr Darren Steinhardt

Founder and Director

Darren is the founder of the Infocus Group.  Originally from Brisbane, Darren has an extensive background of over 27 years’ experience in the financial services industry, commencing his career in 1989.  It was Darren’s vision of ‘being financially fit’ that became the genesis of Infocus. Together with his wife Stephanie, Darren founded the business on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in 2001.

Darren, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, a Graduate from the Australian Institute of Company Directors, has undertaken studies in finance, law and economics and holds a Masters Degree in Applied Finance.

Mr Jonathan Hubbard

Non-Executive Director, Chair of Audit and Risk Committee

Jon is a professional company director bringing expertise in strategy, business development, industry reform and regulation, finance, risk management, accounting and audit.

Previously, Jon was a Partner in the Advisory practice of PwC for 12 years. During this period Jon specialised in the energy, resources and infrastructure industries, in respect of which he held a number of leadership roles. His overall career with the firm spanned 25 years across the SME, Audit and Advisory practices, in the Melbourne, London and Brisbane offices.

Jon was appointed to the Infocus group board on 1 July 2013.  Jon is also a director of the Australian Energy Market Operator Limited and Power Generation Corporation (NT), trading as Territory Generation, and is a former director of CS Energy Limited.

Ms Karen Smith-Pomeroy

Non-Executive Director, Chair of Remuneration and Nominations Committee 

Karen is a professional company director with particular expertise in risk and governance, and with an executive career in the financial services sector spanning more than 30 years.  Most recently Karen was a senior executive with Suncorp group, including a period from 2009-2013 as Chief Risk Officer of the Banking arm of the Group. 

Karen was appointed to the InFocus group board in September 2015. Karen is also a director of Queensland Treasury Corporation, Stanwell Corporation Limited, and National Affordable Housing Consortium Limited, and a Queensland Advisory Board member of Australian Super. Karen is a former director of several companies operating across different industry sectors.

Mr Rod Bristow

Managing Director and CEO

Rod commenced with Infocus in February 2011 and was appointed Managing Director and CEO in October 2012.  His experience includes development and execution of strategic change in medium to large private sector and not-for-profit organisations.  Previous roles have included Chief Operating Officer and alternate Managing Director at Commonwealth Securities Limited and national Chief Executive of Australia’s largest environmental NGO, Greening Australia Limited.

Rod holds a Bachelor of Science from the Australian National University and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. 

Mr David Hasib

Non-Executive Director

David is a founding Director of Patron Financial Advice, which merged with the Infocus Group in 2014. With over 25 years industry experience, David has a strong track record in establishing wealth management solutions to clients and in particular, wealth advisory businesses.  David has served on a number of advisory boards and prior to the formation of Patron ran a corporate practice of 15 advisers.

Responsibility of the Board

The Board is responsible for guiding and monitoring the Company on behalf of the shareholders to whom they are accountable.  The Company’s constitution details the composition of the Board and provides that it should comprise not less than three but not more than seven Directors. 

The Board meets formally at least six times per year and as frequently as may otherwise be required to deal with urgent matters.  The Chairman is responsible for providing effective leadership in relation to all aspects of the business of the Board, chair the Board and shareholder meetings, review the contribution of Board members and review and mentor other Directors.

The responsibility for the operations and administration of the Company is delegated by the Board to the Managing Director and CEO.  The Managing Director and CEO is primarily responsible to the Board for the affairs of the Company.  However, the Managing Director and CEO works in collaboration with the other executives to develop and implement corporate and strategic initiatives and otherwise carry out the day to day management of the Company.

In accordance with certain conditions in the Board Charter, Directors are entitled to seek independent, legal or other professional advice at the Company’s expense in any matter connected with the discharge of their responsibilities.

Whilst at all times the Board retains full responsibility for guiding and monitoring the Company in discharging its stewardship, it may establish subcommittees and other specialist committees which are able to focus on particular responsibilities and provide informal feedback to the Board.

The Board has established the following committees:

  • Audit and Risk Committee;
  • Remuneration and Nominations committee; and
  • Research and Investment committee.

Leadership Team

The Infocus Group depends upon the talent and experience of its Personnel, and particularly its Leadership team, as its primary asset.  The ability of the Infocus Group to engage and retain talented and experienced Personnel will be fundamental to the Infocus Group achieving its business objectives.

Mr Mike Laffoley

Mike is a chartered accountant with over 30 years of experience, predominantly in financial services with ASX listed entities.  Former roles include General Manager Financial Performance at CSG Limited, senior finance roles with Suncorp, CFO of MFS Diversified Group and Managing Director of The Rock Building Society Limited.

Ms Lyn Dixon

Head of Professional Standards

Lyn has 20 years’ experience in risk management and corporate governance in respect to Australian Financial Services Licensees.  Lyn’s experience includes reviewing and implementing business processes to deliver appropriate advice tools, such as advice software, research and templates. Lyn also has experience in the provision of financial advice, particularly developing advice processes and tools to complement and deliver a licensee’s service proposition.

In addition to leading the Professional Standards Team, Lyn’s role includes evaluating and managing compliance risks within financial planning practices for the Infocus advice channels and developing and maintaining support tools, systems, policies and guidelines for financial planners.

Lyn is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, an Accredited Associate of the Australasian Compliance Institute, a member and Accredited CPD Assessor of the Financial Planning Association and a member of the SMSF Professionals Association of Australia.

Mr William Wang
CFA, MBA
Head of Funds Management

William is responsible for managing Alpha Fund Managers' range of multi-manager funds and the Alpha Fund Managers investment team.

William previously worked with United Funds Management, a multi-manager with over $10 billion in funds under management, where he was a Senior Investment Analyst covering manager research and portfolio construction as well as sitting on the Investment Policy Committee.

Prior to this, William spent five years employed as a Senior Investment Analyst with Mercer Investment Consulting in Aukland, New Zealand.  In this role he provided investment advice to a range of institutional clients including superannuation schemes, charities and other institutional investors. He was also directly involved with Mercer's master trust operations.

William has an MBA from Melbourne University and is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Charter holder.

Ms Sarah Scott

Head of Research

Sarah is responsible for managing Infocus’ Research function, ensuring quality approved products are included on the group Approved Product List.  Sarah is also responsible for researching and constructing the internal group Infocus Invest model portfolios, providing Infocus advisers with efficient portfolio management solutions for their clients.

She has a 20-year background in the financial services industry including working for one of Australia’s largest financial services providers encompassing banking, finance and financial planning.  

Sarah is a Certified Financial Planner and holds a Diploma in Financial Planning through Deakin University. Sarah is also a member of the Financial Planning Association of Australia and is completing a Bachelor of Economics.
